For more than four decades, LOVERBOY has been one of the most enduring and energetic rock bands to emerge from Canada. Formed in 1978 after vocalist Mike Reno met guitarist Paul Dean in Calgary, the band overcame early rejection from U.S. record labels before signing with Columbia Records Canada. Their self-titled debut album (1980), produced by Bruce Fairbairn and engineered by Bob Rock, became a massive success, selling over 700,000 copies in Canada, 2 million in the U.S., and 4 million worldwide.

LOVERBOY quickly rose to international prominence through high-profile tours with major acts such as Journey, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, and Bob Seger, and became early MTV favourites. Known for their red leather pants, big rock sound, and high-energy live shows, the band has sold over 10 million albums and earned multiple multi-platinum certifications, including the iconic Get Lucky, Keep It Up, and Lovin’ Every Minute of It.

Their catalogue features enduring arena-rock classics such as “Working for the Weekend,” “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “The Kid Is Hot Tonite,” and “Lovin’ Every Minute of It.” The band won a record six Juno Awards in 1982 and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Since reuniting in the early 1990s, LOVERBOY has maintained a strong touring presence worldwide, continuing to attract multi-generational audiences. Their cultural impact extends beyond music, with memorable appearances in film, television, and major advertising campaigns. In 2024, the band released Live In ’82, a restored high-definition concert film capturing the peak of their explosive live performance legacy.
